Dalton Community Center
The Dalton Community Center was established in 1954 by a group of concerned citizens dedicated to the development of better health and wholesome recreation for the youth in the community.
In 1966 the Community Center became part of the Dalton Parks and Recreation Dept. This addition and expansion provided much needed recreational services to the Eastside community. The Community Center is now an integral part of Dalton Parks and Recreation offering numerous programs and meeting space for the entire city.
The Center underwent renovations in September of 2008 and in January of 2012 reopened operations in a completely new facility. This new facility will give DPRD additional and much needed recreation space as well as space for community collaborations. This 45,000 sq. ft. facility will feature two full sized air-conditioned gymnasiums, a 1/8 mile indoor walking track, a soccer/football complex with synthetic turf, a state of the art computer lab, weight room, picnic shelters playground, a splash pad for children, aerobics room, numerous dance classes, arts and crafts, and meeting rooms for community groups.
The new facility will also include a Walk- In Health Clinic and a satellite WIC (Women’s Infant’s and Children’s) Center. The Art’s Guild, North Georgia Regional Library, Dalton Police Dept., Dalton State College and others will offer services at this facility. DPRD is looking forward to the joint ventures and providing services with these outside agencies.
